Jan Steenkamp, as a founding member of Irdeto and expert in pay media, leads market development for Irdeto in the Americas. Having held key management positions within the Naspers Group, MIH Limited (NIHL), since 1985, Mr. Steenkamp most recently served as CEO of Entriq., based in San Diego, CA. Before joining Entriq, Mr. Steenkamp was CEO of MIHL’s technology division and Chairman of OpenTV Corp. Prior to this, he was CEO of OpenTV, where he was instrumental in the establishment of the company as the leading provider of cost-effective solutions for the delivery of digital interactive services to television viewers around the world. He lead the successful IPO of OpenTV in 1999 driving one of the fastest first day gains for a company on the NASDAQ. Prior to moving to the United States to run OpenTV, Steenkamp was one of the founders of Irdeto in the Netherlands where he was the Commercial Director of Irdeto Consultants. During this time he held various management and new business initiative positions at both Irdeto and the MIH Group from 1985 to 1997. Initiating the introduction of pay television in Greece, managed the project team to establish pay television in Italy, and worked with Shinawatra in Thailand to establish digital television. Before moving to the Netherlands, Steenkamp was part of the pioneer team at the Nasper Group who started the first Pay Television service, Mnet, in South Africa. Today, Steenkamp resides in California and when he is not travelling to the various customers and operations of Irdeto in America he enjoys cycling some of the most beautiful bicycle routes in California.
